The Lizard Lounge Slam Team is taking over!!

The slam team will host a night with more poetry and more poets! We’re hoping to create additional opportunities for poets to share their work, offer more open mic space, and provide room for themed events, alternative formats, and exciting experiments.

Whether you’re a regular with a weekly seat or stepping down our stairs for the first time, we invite you to join as we celebrate how poetry challenges and connects us. Each Takeover will be a little different, but each time we’ll be booting Blake off the stage. Come see what happens when we hand the keys to the poets.

10/4 Quickdraw: A Poetic Showdown

16 poets. 60 seconds. 1 Winner

Calling all outlaws, wordsmiths, and wordslingers brave enough to step into the Lizard Lounge Corral.  

On October 4th, 16 Poets will face off in four rounds of one-minute showdowns.  Each round, poets will go head-to-head, with the crowd deciding who moves on. 

1st Round: Tip Your Hat (Compliment Battle)

Contestants will trade poetic compliments to see who can praise their opponent most creatively.

2nd Round: Shoot From the Hip

Poets will draw a surprise prompt and fire off a one-minute poem with no time to overthink it.

3rd Round: Sweet Talkin'

Contestants will turn up the charm and use poetry to flirt their way into the crowd's hearts.

Final Round: Mystery

Think you're fast enough? Think you've got what it takes to be the last poet standing?
